Ukuleles have an unmistakably mellow sound that’s resurging with popularity. As one of the simplest fretted instruments to learn, it only takes a few chords to play many of your favorite songs. At LAWK STAR Guitars, we have a wide variety of ukuleles by Gretsch, Luna, and Dean. They are great for beginners and seasoned players alike.
Ukulele Buying Guide
- Sizes: Ukuleles have four main sizes: soprano (the smallest), concert, tenor and baritone (the largest). The larger the instrument, the deeper the sound. The best for beginners are concert and tenor ukuleles because the longer scale makes them simpler to play. A soprano ukulele is best for children and those with small hands. For a challenge, try a six-string guitar ukulele.
- Tonewood : The wood used to construct a ukulele affects how it sounds. While ukuleles are made from a variety of woods, koa, mahogany and spruce are among the most popular. High-end ukuleles and those made in Hawaii usually have koa bodies, which produce warm tones. Mahogany produces a deeper, warmer tone. Spruce ukuleles have bright loud tones that zing.
