AB Switching

A-B, or router, switch pedals are one of the most versatile types of pedals that a musician can own. The pedal’s signal path splits your guitar’s signal two ways, giving you more flexibility and freedom as you play. At LAWK Star, we offer A-B switch pedals by:

  • Tech 21
  • T-Rex Pedals
  • Boss
  • Walrus Audio

Advantages of A-B Switch Pedals

A-B footswitch pedals allow you to route electronics properly. They serve as controllers that turn electronic accessories on or off, allowing you to keep your amps, racks, pedals and other devices together. You may use an A-B switch pedal, for example, if you want to play two different guitars during a song, but want to use the same pedal board.

Musicians use A-B switch pedals when they want to drive two amps simultaneously or use different pedal boards during a set. When wired correctly, an A-B switch pedal can serves as a mixer when you want to send two signals to one device.

By upgrading to an ABY switch, you can connect more electronics, like supplemental effects pedals, tuners or keyboards.

A-B Switch Pedals with Bypass

When you leave an effects pedal plugged into a board, but keep it turned off, your tone may become weak or muddied because the circuitry interferes with the signal, causing it to degrade. When you use a switch pedal with bypass, the bypass circuit lets you remove an effects pedal from the guitar’s signal. This prevents the circuits in the pedal that you don’t want to use from interfering with the circuits in the other pedals as well as your amp and pickups.

The best effects switching system depends on the number of effect pedals you wish to use and your setup. For help choosing the right A-B switch pedal or advice about how to use it with your setup, never hesitate to contact LAWK STAR.
