Guitar Heads
Get the ultimate control over your sound by pairing a cabinet with a separate amplifier head. An amp head powers a speaker cabinet and creates a tonal balance. At LAWK STAR Guitars, we offer amp heads from the some of the best makers in the industry, including: 65amps, Bad Cat, Gallien-Kruger, Paul Reed Smith, Schecter, Tech 21 and Tone King.
The best guitar amp heads bring out your guitar’s natural tone and allow you to manipulate it however you like.
Choosing a Guitar Amp Head
Volts: When choosing an amp head, you must first consider the type of sound you want to achieve. After making this decision, narrow down your choices by finding amp heads that have the same OHMs as the speaker cabinet.
Watts: Amp heads come in a variety of wattages—the higher the wattage, the louder the sound. Amp heads for practicing and small venues generally have up to 30 watts. Some manufacturers make amp heads that you can link with compatible systems to increase the overall wattage and volume.
Headroom: When choosing an amp head, it’s important to know how much headroom you want. Headroom refers to how loud an amp gets before clipping sets in or it begins to overdrive. An amp head’s wattage, voicing and input contribute to its level of clean headroom. In general, it’s a good idea to choose an amp head that has a bit more headroom than you need because it’s simpler to overdrive a clean amp and maximize your speaker power than it is to clean up graininess.
