Pickups
Unlike acoustic guitars, electric guitars and electric basses have pickups mounted under the strings, within the body. They are a small detail that can have a great impact on your tone, and the best depends on the style of music you like to play. At LAWK STAR Guitars, you’ll find pickups by EMG, Dean and Seymour Duncan.
Pickup Types
A pickup is a set of fine wires wrapped around a magnet. They pick up guitar string vibrations and turn them into electric energy that travels through a cable and out a speaker. Single coil pickup: A single coil pickup has one magnet that the strings touch. It has a low output and produces a treble sound. : Humbucker, or dual coil, pickups have a magnetic pole for each string. The device “bucks the hum,” or interference, heard in single coil pickups by pairing each string with magnets that face north and south. The result is less hum, a higher output and a medium tone. Trembucker: A trembucker has adjustable poles for each string so you can vary the output and tone. They’re better for guitars that have more space between the strings, but you may also find them in guitars with tremolo bridges.
When choosing a pickup, consider its installation, the need for batteries and the type of music you intend to play. At LAWK STAR, the pickups we offer can turn an okay guitar into one that’s optimal.
